Remembering Nik

Nik RiversIt is with great sadness and regret that I inform Harlequin fans everywhere that Rolf Peter, aka Nik Rivers, passed away on February 12th.
Most of you likely know already and I apologize for my tardiness.

Nik was well-loved by so many and known for his big charismatic personality.
Most of us were well acquainted with Nik but not too many knew what Rolf was up to.
Nik stayed up late but Rolf was an early riser.
Nik was always game for a party and Rolf was always there for his friends when needed.
Nik was always quick with a joke and self-deprecating but Rolf could be intense and serious.
Nik made life fun but Rolf dealt with the consequences.
I knew I could always count on him when the chips were down though … all I ever had to do was ask.
Nik made me laugh … a lot …. but as I write this I am wiping up my tears for Rolf and his family to whom I send all my love and condolences.
I am so grateful that I the opportunity to tell him I loved him just recently and I will treasure many great memories and thankfully a lot of laughs.

For those of you wishing to do something, Rolf’s family is wanting to set up a trust fund for a music scholarship for at-risk teenagers.
Stay tuned and I will pass the information along as I know it.
I am away on holidays and will know more when I return in mid-March.
I know a lot of ex-Harlequin members are already involved in this endeavour and I plan to jump in with both feet upon my return!

Thank you all in advance!
George

PS. Hey Nik … “ya know something … we all love you buddy!”

How bittersweet.Just found the website after my son asked me about 70’s bands I used to listen to that he didn’t already know and right away I said Harlequin.only to read of the sad news of Nik’s passing.Condolences to the family. Was there or will there be any tribute concert????….

  5. Im a long time fan of Harlequin and thats very sad news. How in the world did he pass at such a young age?

  6. Brokenhearted over this news. Had to pop in an old cassette tape of you boys playing at Night Moves, Nik (Rolf) singing one of my favorites of his, Run With Me. Absolutely love that song… You guys should add it to your playlist, keep a little Nik Rivers in the mix for old times sake. And now he is off to sing with a new group of “Choirboys”… My condolences to all who knew and loved him.

  7. How very sad. Upon reflection, I can recall many conversations with Rolf (and Nik) and I am now able to understand more about him. Thank you for that George. When talking with Nik, my cheeks would sometimes hurt from all the laughter. When talking with Rolf, there would also be laughter, but you could also tell that he was genuinely interested in what you had to say. RIP Rolf. You are already missed. Deepest condolences to Jessie, Lane and family.

I am very sadden to hear of Rolf’s passing! I met Rolf while working at the Inntowner when he was with Modern Minds, he left an everlasting impression on many of us! His warped sense of humour is what always brought a smile! Throughout the years our paths have crossed, while playing with Harlequin and it was always like time had not passed! RIP Nik you will be sadly missed by many! My heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and band mates!

  9. The first time I met him he was Rolf. I Didnt get to see that side of him very often it was usually Nik the fun loving guy with a smile to make you feel special. When I did talK to Rolf he was a great friend. I will truly miss him and I wish I had the opportunity to know him better, Nik and Rolf. RIP
